EMBEDDED SYSTEMS DESIGN & APPLICATIONS LABORATORY
The Embedded Systems Design and Applications Laboratory (ESDALAB), founded in 2019 within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of the Peloponnese, operates as a validated Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) of the European Commission. Its mission is the development and deployment of advanced embedded systems technologies, wireless communications, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber-physical systems and Artificial Intelligence, with emphasis on high technological maturity and real-world implementation.
The Laboratory’s research activity includes the design of architectures for high-speed heterogeneous networks, 5G/6G technologies and next-generation communication systems, as well as the integration of sensors, edge computing and real-time infrastructures. In parallel, it develops machine learning and AI algorithms for data analytics on embedded platforms, supporting intelligent environments, biomedical applications and automation systems.
In the field of smart buildings and assisted living, ESDALAB develops integrated solutions combining Digital Twins, environmental and energy monitoring, remote control mechanisms and behavioural pattern analysis. These applications aim to enhance energy efficiency, safety, accessibility and overall quality of life, particularly for vulnerable population groups.
The Laboratory also invests in interactive and immersive training and simulation environments, leveraging Virtual and Extended Reality (VR/XR), intelligent vision systems and advanced human–machine interfaces to strengthen experiential learning and knowledge transfer.
As part of a public university ecosystem, ESDALAB maintains strong collaborations with universities, research organisations and industry stakeholders in Greece and internationally. Through technology transfer services, digital transformation support and participation in European and national initiatives, the Laboratory actively contributes to shaping a resilient, sustainable and innovation-driven technological environment.
